Scholarship Criteria

To be eligible for the Jeanette Shell Book Scholarship Award, all applicants must:

1. Be a resident of the Township of Union and of African-American descent.
2. Have a minimum GPA of 2.8 (“C” Average)
3. Provide proof to the Scholarship Committee of acceptance or attendance of a post-secondary institution.
4. Submit a short essay (no less than 250 words and no more than 300, double-spaced) on a community-related subject selected by the committee.
5. Have a Township of Union Public Library Card
6. Two (2) letters of reference for School-Related Activities
7. Two (2) letters of reference for Community-Related Activities

To be eligible for the Judith Murphy and Rose Sloan Book Scholarship, all applicants must:

1. Be a resident of the Township of Union and of African-American descent.
2. Provide proof to the Scholarship Committee of acceptance to or attendance at a post-secondary institution.
3. Submit a brief paragraph explaining any financial difficulties you are currently experiencing, or anticipate experiencing, in pursuing your educational goals.
4. Submit a short essay (no less than 250 words and no more than 300, double-spaced) on a community-related subject selected by the committee.
5. Have a Township of Union Public Library Card.
6. Two (2) letters of reference for School-Related Activities
7. Two (2) letters of reference for Community-Related Activities
